Salty Barn Studios
I was born on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Growing up I built a platform for making any type of art as a pure enjoyment and love of mine. As I grow older I have become fond for fabric art, photography, pastels, pen-ink and ceramics. I went to California College of the Arts in Oakland, California for a semester and studied fashion design. After a year I came back to the East coast and finished my studies at Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont. Graduating with a Bachelor of the Arts.
In the fall of 2011 I picked up and moved to Asheville, NC to peruse my dream in the arts and landed a job at the Asheville Art Museum. In the beautiful blue ridge mountains I was inspired by natures purist beauty. I was able to connect with a great art community in Asheville and mature as an artist exploring my pastel style. I Currently live in Brooklyn, New York working as a barista and interning with the Brooklyn Art Space as a Studio Coordinator. Finding the time and continuity to produce my abstract pastels.
Vermont. The maple sweet, snowy vista, keeper of all that is New England leaves a lasting impression on anyone so fortunate to pass through its endless ancient mountains. For me, it left a love for abstract landscapes that has stayed with me to this day. The soft lush colors forming their own reality and configuration which in return shapes an illusion within the pastels. The paintings reflect an emotion one has while seeing a certain image ( a mountain, a river, a bird, a friend or family member…) Concentrating on the smaller things in life people over look. People see the same thing every day, like a field across the street from their house or their own backyard, they sometimes lose a grip on how beautiful it may be. The concept of abstract landscapes gives a chance to present familiar themes to people in a way that brings them back to appreciating the world that has always been in front of them that they may have forgotten is there.
Wikipedia - Definition of Shape: The shape of an object located in some space is a geometrical description of the part of that space occupied by the object, as determined by its external boundary – abstracting from location and orientation in space, size and other properties such as color, content, and material composition.
